Name any root, fruit, or plant, and there's a good chance Italians make a drink from it. In this case it's the myrtle evergreen shrub, a sacred tree in folklore and mythology whose leaves, berries and flowers are used for essential oils, folk medicine, and religious applications. There are two types of Mirto commonly available in Corsica and Sardegna: one is a white version made with the leaves, and the other is Mirto Rosso made with shrub's blue berries. Translated as Myrtle of the farmer, this Mirto Rosso is a small-batch traditional preparation made on the island of Sardinia from berries steeped in neutral spirit. Just another one of Italy's great libations to explore. 30% ABV.
